The Flat Coated Retriever is in every way a typical representative of the retriever races. As an excellent swimmer with good ability to retrieve, he was used early for hunting in English wetlands - a task that fills this hunting-happy breed with enthusiasm to this day. At the same time, the Flat Coated Retriever is also a friendly and active family dog, who stands out for his patience and intelligence and is very attached to his family.

The Flat Coated Retriever is one of the oldest Retriever breeds and was bred for the first time in the mid-19th century. Like most retrievers, he is from the UK, where he was originally used as a hunting and retrieving dog. The origins of the breed, which was first introduced in 1855, included spaniels, setters, water dogs such as the Newfoundland and shepherd dogs and herding dogs. Collie involved. His high point was the Flat Coated Retriever in the 19th century, where he was highly regarded at exhibitions and was considered one of the best hunting dogs. In the 20th century, however, he lost to other races such as the Labrador Retriever or the Golden Retriever in popularity.

The Flat Coated Retriever shows an intelligent and powerful expression without being cumbersome or slender. He has a long and well-formed head with a flat skull of medium width. The eyes vary from dark brown to hazelnut brown.

The head sits on a long neck, which goes well in the back to facilitate the search for clues. The breast is deep and relatively wide. The Flat Coated Retriever has a short, straight and well set tail. It should never be worn well above the back line. The coat is dense and should appear as smooth as possible. Runs and tail are well feathered, which emphasizes the elegance of the adult animal. The movement is fluid and parallel.

As a family dog, the Flat Coated Retriever is affectionate and sensitive. He always seeks the closeness of his family and needs just as much attention as spout. Towards children, the Flat Coated Retriever proves to be a tender and playful companion. As a quiet and pleasant animal, he is hardly noticed in the house, but tends to inadequate exercise to overweight and behavioral problems due to boredom. The Flat Coated Retriever is fun to learn and intelligent and can be trained in a variety of areas.
